Karma Chimi Wangchuk is a teacher educator. He started to teach in his current position since September 2008. Prior to this, he worked as a school teacher from July 2002 to August 2008 and taught subjects like English, History and Social Studies in grades III to VIII. He has a Master of Education from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. He is one of the teacher educators with early childhood education qualification in the country in the recent times.
Since 2008 he was involved in the development of early childhood education sector in Bhutan. He co-developed a training programme with Mr. Karma Galey from ECCD and SEN Division and trained 30 Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) facilitators in Punakha in 2009. This was the first professional development in early childhood education in Bhutan. From 2008 till 2011, he was a team member who drafted the National Policy on Early Childhood Care and Development in Bhutan. Using this policy the Ministry of Education established many ECCD centres in the country. He is one of the certified trainers for the Basic Training of ECCD Facilitators, Integration of ECCD Approaches for Pre-Primary Teachers based on Step by Step Approach and ECCD Parenting Education Programme. As the national team leader, he led and successfully completed the first the nation-wide situation study to gauge the human capacity development needs for early childhood care and development in Bhutan funded by Open Society Foundation, UK from 2011 to 2012. He also developed three modules on the training of caregivers working in Crèches in Bhutan in 2017-18 for the Nation Commission for Women and Children, Bhutan and also trained two cohorts of caregivers.
Under his leadership that the College of Education developed the Diploma in ECCD programme in 2015 and established the Rinpung ECCD centre which serves as a model ECCD centre in the country. He has also developed modules for Bachelor and Diploma programmes.
